The Bulls lost to the New Orleans Hornets, oops, Pelicans last night in triple overtime, in a game which took three hours and fifteen minutes to finish.
And you know what, this is the happiest I’ve been all season. Right, nothing to show for it. No, definitely no W in that win column, and more losses than wins.
But you have to love the fight, and:
A – Attitude
B – Belief and bench! Now that’s what I’m talking about. Taj Gibson, who should be added to the All-Star ballot in D’s place, with 26 points, 14 rebounds, five blocked shots. And Dunleavy added 23 points, 6-for-10 three-point shooting, seven rebounds, five assists.
C – Clutch. So I was north of the border (no, not Wisconsin, Canada) this weekend and really tried as hard as I could to miss the Cleveland game. But I got back to the hotel early, and it was playing on SportsNet Ontario (with the Cavs announcers), and I turned the volume down and just watched…until the fourth quarter, when I couldn’t take it any more. And I didn’t even see the final play, where the Bulls had every player, plus the coaching staff and ball boys on the court trying to make a shot and no one could! In last night’s Pelicans game, they made those clutch shots, but the defense seemed to have broken down on the other end. There is obviously only one answer – Cinjo. You’ve already heard a lot about her offensive game, but when it comes to defense, Thibs would be proud.
D – Deng. 37 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, shot after shot, and 55 minutes of playing time. I’m on the court for five minutes and five seconds, and I’m calling for a towel and a water (and/or coffee) break.
E – Energy, enthusiasm, effort.
F – Finding their way, fight, focus.
G – Grind it out Gibson. Taj’s play so far this year has been the most unexpected surprise – in a good way! We’ve had way too many of those unexpected nightmarish surprises. But Taj, more than any Bull has risen to the occasion.
H – Hope. Hope that they’re turning a corner, and hope that by Thursday night’s Heat game, the energy, enthusiasm and effort carry over, and the Bulls add a much-needed W to the win column against a much-hated Heat team. But no triple OTs please – the game doesn’t even start until 8:30 p.m. Central!
I should just become a fan of the UConn women, then I could be assured of 40- to 60-point victories, no losses, no OTs and a guaranteed trip to my cozy bed before 10 p.m.
Ah, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. The Bulls #1 fan will keep the faith too.
See Red and Go Bulls!
